The story of our AI Posture Reminder App

Leon Wei is the developer of Posture Reminder

Meet Leon, developer of PostureReminderApp.com, at Steve Jobs theater, Apple Park

Hey there, I'm Leon Wei, the brains behind Posture Reminder, a Mac App that's all about watching your back (literally). You might catch me hanging around the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, probably standing up straight, thanks to my own app.

So, why did I create Posture Reminder? Well, picture this: me, glued to a computer for over 10 hours a day at Apple (yep, left in 2021). I was so deep into my work that I'd forget something pretty important - sitting up straight. The result? My back and neck started competing for the 'Most Painful' award.

Then, my chiropractor dropped a truth bomb: "Leon, posture matters!" So, I turned my team into posture police – they'd yell anytime I resembled the Hunchback of Notre Dame. It was a bit embarrassing, but hey, it worked!

Everything was peachy until COVID-19 hit. Working from home meant no more posture cops. I started slouching again, and my back wasn't happy. That's when the light bulb went on: why not create an AI that nags me about my posture? Enter Posture Reminder.

Since Posture Reminder started keeping me in line, my back's been straight, my neck's stopped complaining, and my eyes? They're just fine. It's been a game-changer.

Curious about the technical wizardry behind Posture Reminder?

It's all about deep neural networks and the latest in computer vision and AI. In simple terms, Posture Reminder is like a personal trainer for your posture. First, it learns what your good and bad postures look like (the 'training' phase). Then, when you're using it, it's constantly judging your posture (politely, of course) and gives you a nudge when you're slouching. Trust me, it's less annoying than it sounds.

Outside of being the posture guru, I'm juggling a few other hats. I'm growing skills.ai, a startup revolutionizing data analytics with AI, teaching AI foundational and data skills at SQLPad, and lending my brainpower as a technical advisor to some cool startups in AI and Machine Learning. Before all this, I led machine learning teams at Apple, played research scientist at Amazon, and built some cool stuff.

Feel free to connect with me on Twitter or LinkedIn, especially if you want to chat about good posture, AI, or why the latest Mac laptop is always the best. And if Posture Reminder sounds like something you need (who doesn't?), give it a whirl and let me know what you think!
